WHAT WE'RE FIGHTING FOR
Bring and Keep Care Local
Nobody should have to wait for or be denied the services they desperately need because of where they live. Many of us struggle to see a doctor when we need one, and when care is available, it is often too expensive or too far away.
Yet, in recent years, Floridians from all over the state have faced significant challenges in getting care.
Hospitals have closed in rural areas, and no plan exists to replace the care.
Floridians of color experience higher rates of illness and death from several health conditions.
About 40% of people in Florida who need care remain uninsured; the rate is even higher in rural areas.
Rural Floridians with disabilities struggle to find appropriate providers to address physical and mental health concerns.
More than 86% of the labor and delivery wards serving Florida’s rural communities have closed.
Families shouldn’t have to hold off on important health decisions or drive long distances to get quality care. All of these problems are solvable.
We need to increase funding for healthcare in our rural areas to ensure care is available and affordable in our communities.
WHAT WE'RE FIGHTING FOR
Making Care Affordable
A modern reality is that health care is too expensive for many families trying to make ends meet. Many go without insurance because it’s too costly.
In Florida, many families earning between $8,000 and $30,000 a year end up in a tough spot—they make too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to get help in the health care marketplace. Even if one’s lucky enough to have insurance through their employer or through the Marketplace, affording out-of-pocket costs might be a whole other story. For too many Floridians, the price of health insurance can be as much as their entire yearly salary, which is just not right!
